Attendes will acquire skills to critically evaluate and analyze numerous published studies in the area of application of Doppler ultrasound in diagnosis of diverse pathologies in abdomen (portal hypertension, liver tumor, kidney tumors, ovarian and uterine pathologic chagnes, renal and other visceral arteries stenoses) and in peripheral vessels (deep venous thrombosis, pathology of peripheral, extracranial and intracranial vessels). In this areal many papers are published over years with very contradictory results, partially because of methodological errors, but also due to the large interobserver variability. Attendees will be able to evaluate which papers are based on erroneous hypothesis and why so diverse differences in results are published. They will also acquire basic knowledge about applications of Doppler ultrasonography in various specialites (i.e. hepathology, urology, nephrology, gynaecology, angiology, neurology, clinical immunology, and successful completion of the course will be accomplished by the critical analyisis of one scientific publication in the course area („journal club“) at the completion seminar.

Physical basis of Doppler, 2 h lectures; Basic hemodynamics and interpretation of Doppler spectra, 2 h L; Areas of application of Doppler in modern medicine, 3h L; 8 h seminars in practical aspects of Doppler of peripheral arteries, veins, carotid, vertebral and cerebral arteries and visceral vessels. 5h of practicals in which different results will be analyzed in scientific research related to Doppler, using examples of diagnosis of ovarian cancer, liver and kindey tumors, diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis, in echocardiography, and in other areas.
